Robert Dugoni is one of my favourite authors when I want a tension-filled, compulsive read. In his latest book, Her Deadly Game, he combines a legal thriller with a hearty dose of police procedural and a side of family drama. This standalone book features Keera Duggan, a former chess prodigy and lawyer who made a name for herself as a prosecutor in Seattle. She is forced to leave her job due to a bad romantic entanglement and return to her family’s criminal defense law firm in the hopes of restarting her career and restoring her family’s reputation.
Keera’s first case is to defend Vince LaRussa, an investment advisor whose wheelchair bound wife was brutally murdered. Keera’s chess skills come into play as she builds her defense and receives help creating her courtroom strategy while playing an online chess game with a mysterious opponent. This is a fast-paced story that will keep readers guessing the identity of the murderer, bring them into courtroom battles and into the Duggan clan who, for all of their issues and dysfunction, are a formidable family in and out of the courtroom. I hope we see more of Keera Duggan in the future!
This book publishes on March 28th but you can place a hold on one of WPL’s copies today, in print or CD Audiobook format.
