Falling is the incredible debut by T. J. Newman and it is a relentless, tension-filled must-read for suspense fans. But you probably don’t want to bring it with you on your next flight!
This is a fast-paced story that will keep readers on the edge of their seats and their hearts pounding as they dive into a story about a hostage situation and a pilot who must make a decision that will have horrific consequences either way. Newman draws on her years as a flight attendant to give this story a chilling authenticity and gives readers a behind-the-scenes look at the responsibilities, skills and professionalism of airline staff.
Writing much of the book during her down times on red eye flights, Newman gives readers perspectives from the pilot, head flight attendant, the FBI and Air Traffic Control – a few of whom had an impressive amount of depth, particularly head flight attendant, Jo. Newman skillfully balances these different points of view – those in the plane and on the ground – with equal vigor, making this a nicely balanced read.
This was an incredible debut and while it’s not one I’d suggest reading too close to your next flight, I highly recommend this unputdownable and relentless thriller to readers who are eager to find a new-to-them author of suspense! Put your seat in the upright position and buckle up. It’s going to be a very bumpy ride.
