Upcoming Books in 2024 to Get Excited About

Did you know? As soon as WPL orders a book for our collection, often months ahead of its publication date, you can put it on hold?

It’s true and how exciting is that?!

In this blog post I’m going to introduce you to six highly anticipated books set to publish in early 2024 that you can put on hold at WPL today and get ahead of other eager readers.

A Friend in the Dark by Samantha M. Bailey

Sam is one of my favourite authors – and a stellar human being t’boot — whose first two books (Woman on the Edge and Watch Out For Her) became bestsellers.  A Friend in the Dark is this Toronto author’s upcoming domestic thriller that has her signature twists, dark feel and fast pace that pulls readers into a story about an online second chance romance that goes terribly wrong. With dual points of view, red herrings and well-developed characters, this book will keep you reading well past your bedtime.

Publication Date: April 2024

The Women by Kristin Hannah

Kristin Hannah is a well-known and much-loved historical fiction author whose previous books include The Nightingale, The Four Winds and The Great Alone. In February, her newest book hits stores (and library shelves) and is an epic story set during the Vietnam War that shows the resiliency, strength, and commitment of women in war.

With flawed believable characters and themes of friendship, perseverance and courage, this thought-provoking and poignant story will have readers looking at the Vietnam War with a different perspective.

Every time Kristin Hannah releases a new book it becomes my new favourite and with the early praise this book is already garnering, I will be reading my advanced copy very soon and predict that The Women will be added to the top of my favourite book list.

Publication Date: February 2024

The Heiress by Rachel Hawkins

Rachel Hawkins is the author of many books, including The Wife UpstairsThe Villa and Reckless Girls. The Heiress is her upcoming book that centres around an infamous heiress who was the victim of a kidnapping when she was a child. She went on to marry and bury four husbands under mysterious circumstances and after her death, leaves her nine-figure fortune to her family who have secrets of their own.

Touted as clever and addictive, The Heiress is a story that uses multiple POVs to tell the story and is a great pick for fans of chilling thrillers filled with twists, family dysfunction, greed, and long-held secrets.

Publication Date: January 2024

The Secret Keeper by Genevieve Graham

Genevieve Graham is a Canadian author who has made a name for herself with her compelling and poignant Historical Fiction stories that she weaves around lesser-known bits of Canadian history. The Secret Keeper brings readers into the lives of twin sister Dot and Dash Wilson during WWII who join the war effort, one as a codebreaker and the other as a pilot. Inspired by the real-life stories of women during World War II, this is a story about friendship, sisterhood, and the courage of women in wartime.

Great for fans of Kate Quinn’s The Diamond Eye and Kristin Hannah’s The Nightingale.

Publication Date: April 2024

Darling Girls by Sally Hepworth

Australian author Sally Hepworth is back with a new twisty, domestic thriller that follows three girls who are placed into the care of Miss Fairchild, a foster mother whose home looks ideal but the reality much more sinister. Twenty-five years later, human remains are found under the old foster home and the three foster sisters return and may find answers they’re not ready for.

Alternating from past to present, the story is told from the girls’ POVs and shows how their childhood traumas have impacted their adult lives and how secrets they thought were buried, may not stay buried for long. Hepworth shows what we are capable of when we are at our most desperate in this intense and chilling domestic thriller.

Publication Date: April 2024

She’s Not Sorry by Mary Kubica

Mary Kubica is one of my go-to authors for a twisty, chilling read. Her upcoming book She’s Not Sorry is an intense and fast-paced read.

Meghan is an ICU nurse is trying to juggle single motherhood with her job when her new patient, a young suicide patient is admitted and is in critical condition. As Meghan learns more about her patient, she gets pulled into the young woman’s dark past.

Perfectly paced, filled with twists and a cast of characters you’re not sure you can trust, Kubica proves this isn’t her ‘first rodeo’ as a thriller author when hooks readers from the very first pages.
