If you like books that have two stories told at once, and/or books that get you hooked without you even realizing it, Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris is an intense thriller novel for adults that definitely catches you off guard. When I set it down after my first reading session, I found myself unintentionally still thinking about it, and subconsciously making decisions in fear. You become invested. Your heart breaks and the psychological tricks start playing with you too.

Behind Closed Doors is a book about a couple named Grace and Jack, and they have the appearance of a perfect life. Newlyweds, beautiful house, elaborate meals cooked to perfection, they always say the right things. But is there more to their life than we see?

If we look a little closer at their life, we realize that you don’t ever see Grace without Jack glued to her side. We notice that she always turns down our invitations for coffee, and even if she does come, Jack is always with her. Why is she so slight? Whenever we are over, she always prepares such elaborate meals and we never leave hungry. Why does she never answer the house phone when we call?

The answers are found in Behind Closed Doors, where we learn the intricate stories of Grace and Jack: how they met, how they agreed to care for Grace’s little sister Millie who suffers from Down Syndrome, their wedding day, and their falling. Even if I was in Grace’s shoes, I wouldn’t have been able to have foreseen what was to come.

Behind Closed Doors is a psychological thriller determined to captivate you. If you are looking for a book to binge-read, definitely try it. It is a fight to set down.
